SAN ANTONIO — It was a matter of when not if Ryan Garcia would return to the ring after bowing out of a scheduled fight with Javier Fortuna in July due to mental health issues and then with Jo Jo Diaz in November because of a broken wrist.
Those doubts are about to silenced as the 23-year-old budding star makes his return after a 15-month layoff on Saturday when he takes on Emmanuel Tagoe from the Alamodome.
Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) last fought in January 2021 as he got dropped for the first time in his professional career but rebounded and stopped Luke Campbell via seventh-round TKO.
Tagoe (32-1, 15 KOs) takes a giant step up in competition in the biggest fight of his career as he competes in the United States for the second consecutive fight. The first outing was a successful one, defeating Mason Menard via unanimous decision in November 2020.
DAZN News will have live coverage of Ryan Garcia vs. Emmanuel Tagoe, starting at 8 p.m. ET.
